In the aftermath of the First World War, the newly independent ex-Russian provinces in the Eastern Baltic became objects of British interest. This study examines the phenomenon of British foreign policy's concern for Finland. The interpretation is based on the argument that Finland's importance for Britain was framed by the inner logic of British foreing policy. The book is therefore much more than a study of British-Finnish relations for it provides an insight into some of the key assumptions of British foreign policy at that time.
