This exhibition of Finnish icons in Thessalonica is the first presentation abroad of icons from Valamo Monastery, and from the congregation of Ilomantsi. Icons of Valamo monastery give a good indication of the iconographic tradition of the Orthodox church in Finland. The icons in the exhibition represent both chronologically and stylistically the iconographic tradition of Valamo and of Finland from the beginning of the 18th century to the 20th century. This iconographic tradition parellels the development of the Russian tradtition.
