This volume consists of papers presented to Professor Juha Janhunen on the occasion of his 60th birthday on February 12, 2012. The articles of the Festschrift are written in nine different languages. The collection's title Per Urales ad Orientem refers to the geographically vast journey that Professor Janhunen has made as a scholar on his way towards the Orient. The wide spectrum of topics in the articles represents scholarly interests stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Bering Strait and from the tundra to Tibet. The 45 articles of the book appear in alphabetical order, according to the author's surname.
