The publication is otherwise in good condition and it’s unused. The last piece. How musical is a whale? sketches an introductory portrait of zoömusicology, addressing limitations and potentials of the zoömusicological research, problematic topics, a framework of the possible methodologies, and an attempt to situate the discipline in relation to other fields. Zoömusicology approaches non-human animals from the perspective of semiotics and musicology, and music from the perspective of biological and ethological sciences. The basic innovation is the assertion that music is not an exclusively human phenomenon.
