The aim of this work is to disaggregate the main principles according to which the Russian security and intelligence elite has perceived the post-Cold War international system. Central attention is paid to the elite’s spatial structuration of the world around it, as expressed in the public statements made by the elite for the Russian press. The work concentrates particularly on the geographic contents of the elite’s discource, its geopolitical factors, and the geopolitical argumentation of the elite that eventually surfaced in published rhetoric. The research focuses on the use and abuse of spatial concepts functional in legalising the existence and workings of the Russian security and intelligence elite.
