While the problems that women face worldwide are partly universal in character, they also vary in relation to regional and cultural contexts. Addressing women's human rights at a universal level forms therefore a huge and complex challenge for international organizations and public diplomacy. This study pinpoints a number of problems, limits and challenges that relate to the applicability of the human rights model as a tool to address women's concerns particularly in four selected areas: violence against women, trafficking in and prostitution of women, and women's concerns relating to health, reproduction and sexuality as well as to decision-making at the personal and societal levels.
