In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in the far east of Siberia, lives a genetically unique breed of domestic cattle (Bos taurus), the Yakutian Cattle. These cattle have adapted to the extreme environmental conditions, the cold dark winters, the short summers and light nights and the fodder plants native to their northern homeland. The book presents research results from Finnish laboratories, provides a summary of previous studies of Sakhan history and Russian transition, uses statistical data and other material from the region and includes interviews with inhabitants from the northern Siberian villages.
