The present book continues the theme of the Defining the Architects in Fifteenth-Century Italy by Liisa Kanerva. This time the author has widened the scope to include all the most important texts written by the architect writers of the Italian Renaissance. The study is focused on the tension and interplay between the two cultures surrounding the Renaissance architects: the upper-class culture of the courts and the workshop culture of the painters and sculptors. In the Renaissance texts the reality is reflected by the changing concepts of scientia and disegno.
