Mainstreaming Human Rights in the Context of the European Security and Defence Policy

This study seeks to outline the conceptual and practical conditions for the successful integration of human rights into European Security and Defence Policy activities. It also contains an analysis of how this has taken place, and to what extent such integration - "human rights mainstreaming" - has been successful in the ESDP operations conducted so far. This is followed by a discussion of considerations that need to be taken into account as human rights are made part of individual ESDP operations.
