Vanhan Rauman portit kertovat entisaikojen kaupunkielämästä.

Unescon maailmanperintökohteeksi valittu Vanha Rauma on pohjoismaiden laajin yhtenäinen puukaupunkialue.

Tätä teosta varten Karhulan työtä on jatkanut historiallisten kaupunkinäkymien kuvaukseen erikoistunut valokuvaaja Jamie Haanpää.

Teos toimii myös oppaana kävelykierroksella Vanhassa Raumassa.

Old Rauma was inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage List as an outstanding example of a Nordic city constructed in wood. An integral part of the tightly constructed city image is held by gates that separate private courtyards from the public streets.

Over the years, the city image of Old Rauma has changed and many of the gates have disappeared. Since 1976, the Old Rauma Foundation has been working to restore and renovate old gates.

The first director of the Rauma Museum, Jalmari Karhula, systematically photographed the gates of Old Rauma during the 1930’s. Karhula's work has been continued for this book by photographer Jamie Haanpää, who specializes in taking images of historical city views.

This book also serves as a guide for a walking tour of Old Rauma.
