Nature Calendar 2027

The foundation of Finnish nature, the bedrock, has been shaped over billions of years by the geological upheavals of the Earth. Later, the Ice Ages have reshaped the landforms once again. Various geological processes are still continuing today. The landscape is alive.

All layers of history remain visible in nature through its different features. Volcanic rock types and metamorphic rocks for­med in collisions between continental plates provide different starting points for life above ground in each region. Clay plains, block fields in steep terrain, eskers and meandering rivers all sustain entirely different communities of flora and fauna.

Plants, animals and human beings alike shape the landscape, sometimes with a heavy hand. The pages of this 2027 Nature Calendar present the distinctive features of our country: its varied contours and formations, and the unique living organisms that inhabit them.
