This study goes through Colossians sentence by sentence and argues that it was composed by a student of Paul who makes use of all the seven undisputed Pauline letters. The purpose of Colossians is to warn the readers to take heed against persons who are trying to lead them astray. This study shows that the main identifying marks of the persons beign opposed by this text include "angelic worship" and visions. Colossians seems to represent the debate between two different types of early Christianity occurring in Asia Minor at the end of the first century: Paulís heritage of Christian liberty and an apocalyptic visionary group that observed stricter regulations. The study thus puts forward the seldom presented alternative that the "philosophy" opposed in Colossians should not be regarded as "heretical" but can be found within the New Testament canon.
