This Festschrift celebrates the seventieth birthday of Professor Matti Häyry, one of the most influential and provocative voices in contemporary bioethics and applied ethics. Bringing together colleagues, students, and friends, the volume engages with the central themes that have shaped Häyry's distinguished career.

The essays are organised into four sections. The first examines Häyry's philosophical methodology and accounts of rationality in bioethical debates. The second explores utilitarian theory, particularly Häyry's Liberal Utilitarianism and its implications. The third addresses questions of justice, building on Häyry's recent work mapping competing theories of justice in bioethics. The final section turns to antinatalism, the topic that has generated some of the most intense discussion in his later work, and considers its ethical, social, and technological implications.

Taken together, the contributions trace an intellectual journey from rational deliberation and justice to humanity's long-term future. In doing so, they honour a philosopher whose work has consistently challenged others to think more clearly, argue more carefully, and follow ethical commitments wherever they may lead.

Henrik Rydenfelt is University Researcher and Docent of Practical Philosophy and Media and Communication Studies at the University of Helsinki.

Tuija Takala is Research Director at Aalto University and Docent of Practical Philosophy at the University of Helsinki.
