The Empress of Ireland was launched on January 26, 1906 at the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering C. Yards in Glasgow, Scotland. The accident of the Empress of Ireland has always been overshadowed by the sinking of the Titanic, even though the passenger death toll was higher. There were also more Finnish fatalities.
