The legal status and even the usefulness of a "right to development" has been a source of confrontation between the South and the North since the early 1970's. Anja Lindroos has in this study dissected the right to development into its various componets with the aim of outlining its "hard core". Clearly, there is a need to think of international development assistance and cooperation in terms that go beyond charity.
