The current paper attempts to describe hot spots within a small sample area of the Middle East, the Levant, through the eyes of an architect researching the Greco-Roman period 330 BC–AD 640 there. In the following, the role of an architect in the context of archaeology is first clarified. Then there is an attempt at characterizing the general nature of the Middle East, and finally some of those sites to which author is an eye-witness are treated.
