Communication and intelligibility form an interesting pair of concepts. On the one hand, it seems evident that understanding forms a prerequisite of any attempt to communicate. On the other hand, it may also be said that you cannot have understanding without communication, at least it may be said that making things intelligible to others or to oneself presupposes the ability to articulate expressions which basically are communicative. The essays published in this book may all be seen as comments on the notions of communication, understanding, and intelligibility as well as on the peculiar way in which these are interrelated.
